Title: The Ideal Flow Theory and Its Application to Metal Forming

Abstract:

The ideal flow theory is a tool for preliminary designing material forming processes. The present paper focuses on bulk processes. The ideal flow theory adds the ideal flow condition to one of the standard equation systems of plasticity theory. Thus, the final equation system is overdetermined. However, it is possible to show that this system is compatible if some plasticity theories are adopted. In this case, ideal flow solutions determine the shape of tools that produce ideal flows. Until recently, the bulk ideal flow theory has been restricted to Tresca’s yield criterion and its associated flow rule. However, the most recent research has extended the theory to the double slip and rotation model of pressure-dependent plasticity. The present paper consists of three parts. The first part reviews the theory based on Tresca’s yield criterion. The second focuses on the double slip and rotation model. Specific ideal flow solutions are discussed in the third part.
